Talks and free takeaways

Where I'm speaking in 2027, what each talk covers, and the free checklists, templates, and runbooks that go with them. No email needed.

I give talks at meetups and conferences across the Netherlands and online. Each one covers a problem I keep seeing in startups and the smallest build that fixes it. Every talk ends with free takeaways: a checklist, a template, or a runbook a team can use the same week.

The takeaways live here, so the QR codes on my slides have somewhere to land. They're free, and there's no email form in front of them. When one of them raises a question about your own platform, I highly recommend a thirty-minute call. Which talk is closest to the problem on your desk right now?

Upcoming talks

Dates follow each event's own schedule. Where an organiser hasn't set the day yet, I show the month.

Online talk: Ship fast, break nothing: CI/CD for vibe-coded startups

AI tools made writing code cheap. The hard part moved to checking it and shipping it. The pipeline now does the job of a senior engineer who reviews every change. This talk covers three setups: a safety net for a team of one, a trunk-based delivery line for a small team, and guardrails for coding agents that open their own pull requests. All three run on GitHub Actions with short-lived credentials and no keys on laptops.

    Conf42 FinOps 2027

Online talk: Lean compute that bills for what it uses

I'm starting to see the same two infrastructure mistakes in a lot of startups. Some build Kubernetes for 200 users. Others still run on the admin key from week one. This talk walks through three lean architectures that cost little now and scale tenfold without a rewrite: a foundation that passes due diligence, compute that bills for what it uses, and a first AI feature on the database that's already there. Each one ends with a free checklist.

    Dawn Conferences 2027

Conference talk: Your AI feature is an architecture problem

The model is the easy part. I learned that building an AI matching platform end to end. The system around the model decides whether an AI feature reaches production: access policy, retrieval, a model gateway, quality checks, and safe operations. The talk shows one pattern each from finance, healthcare, and B2B SaaS. It also covers the EU rules (DORA, the GDPR, and the AI Act) that put pressure on each layer.

Online talk: Leaving us-east-1: moving a startup into the EU without downtime

I keep meeting startups that never chose us-east-1. It was the default when their first engineer opened the console. This talk shows how to move a running product into an EU region with no customer-visible downtime, in three steps: map and land, move the data in rehearsed waves, then prove that nothing stayed behind. It also covers what still leaves the EU whatever happens, and what the EU Data Act changes from 12 January 2027.

Conference talk: NIS2 for startup engineers: what to build first

A lot of the startups I talk to sit below the NIS2 size threshold. Their customers don't. Banks, hospitals, utilities, and public bodies now pass NIS2 down to suppliers through security questionnaires. This talk shows how to tell in five minutes whether NIS2 reaches a startup, directly or through a customer. It ends with the three builds I'd do first in 90 days: identity and guardrails, detection on the 24-hour reporting clock, and an evidence pack a customer will accept.

These takeaways are an engineer's reading of the rules and the tools. I wrote them to help teams decide what to build. They aren't legal advice. I recommend checking the current text with your own counsel before planning around a date or a threshold.

Let's talk.

A 30-minute call, no pitch. We look at your current setup, your stage, and the thing that's bothering you about it. I give a straight opinion on what to change, what to leave alone, and whether the problem is the one it looks like. What's the one thing in your stack you'd fix tomorrow?
